CONTENTMENT

Welcome to let’s chat with Chaplain Steve. The last month has been busy, exciting and another life change.  First, our daughter married and suddenly Debbie and I became empty nesters. Then we decided to downsize and sold our home within a week. 30 days later we had downsized our belongings by about 40%. We hadn’t had time to find a new home, so we stored the rest of our stuff in storage units and moved into our RV.  We have about 280 square feet of living space for us and our dog, and surprisingly it’s enough. Four weeks now into our journey we still love each other. We laugh. We play. We cook and sleep and eat. We are content.

Many people cannot seem to find contentment. These people are always chasing the next thing. They want this thing or that promotion, and when they get it never seems to be enough. An emptiness is all they find.

My family’s life is not perfect - bad things happen. But overall we are really really happy. Some practices that have helped us be peaceful and find contentment are the following:

  1. We spend time together in nature both talking and being silent.
  2. Some counselors call it meditation, but for us that means reading a spiritual devotional and praying together.
  3. Daily we mention at least one - often more - thing(s) for which we are grateful.
  4. We try hard to declutter our lives.  This means getting rid of all the nonessential stuff that seems to accumulate, while keeping only the things that we need or brings us joy.
  5. We practice kindness to each other.

If you need a little help finding peace and contentment, I’d love to chat further.  My name is Steve, and I’m your chaplain.

Blessings,

Chaplain Steve
