A church’s purpose is
to glorify God. There is no other
reason for a church to exist -- NONE. A church is strategic when everything that
it does is for that ambition only.
The first and most
important way to glorify God is to worship Him. A church is strategic in worship when it painstakingly
plans for the best way that its believers can express their love and devotion
to the one true God. But you might say, “Most normal churches are
made up of people of all sorts of backgrounds, cultures, levels of education and
ages, so everyone might express their love and devotion in different ways.” This is the point exactly. In order to facilitate the worship of its
believers a church must be strategic in planning worship services in order that
all might offer their best in worship. The
first question to ask is: Who are we?
Another way that a
church glorifies God is to disciple its members. Teaching structures, methods and groups
must be planned and organized in order to present Biblical teachings in an
understandable and applicable manner. When
we answer the first question we discover that the members of the church come
from all kinds of backgrounds and education levels. In other words we are all very different
people. So the second question we deliberately
consider is: How can we best teach and
disciple this group of people, so
that they can more closely resemble Jesus in all that they do.
Another way to glorify
God is to GO and reach others with the message of Christ. Every church sits in the middle of a
different kind of community. When
churches are plateaued or declining almost always the church doesn’t resemble
at all the surrounding community. So the third question to consider is: Who lives around here? And this
question is followed immediately by: How
best will they understand the Gospel that lives in my heart and drives my
actions?
A strategic church is one that intentionally and strategically appraises,
plans, prepares and pursues that one goal of Glorifying God prayerfully.
